Starting a Neighborhood Tradition with Luminaries:
Creating a neighborhood tradition with luminaries is a wonderful way to bring warmth and light to your community during the Christmas season. Luminaries, also known as farolitos or paper lanterns, have been used for centuries to illuminate streets and create a magical atmosphere. Here's how you can start this beautiful tradition in your neighborhood:
Gather your neighbors: Reach out to your neighbors and invite them to join in creating a luminaria display. Emphasize the idea of coming together as a community and spreading the holiday spirit.
Choose a date: Pick a night close to Christmas when everyone can participate in setting up and lighting the luminaries. Consider factors like weather conditions and work schedules when selecting the date.
Collect supplies: Purchase brown paper bags, votive candles or LED tea lights, and sand. You can also encourage creativity by providing materials for decorating the bags, such as markers, stencils, or glitter.
Prepare the luminaries: Fill each paper bag about a third of the way with sand to weigh it down. Place a lit candle or LED tea light in the center of the bag. Repeat this process for each luminary.
Set up the luminaries: Arrange the luminaries along sidewalks, driveways, or in front of houses in a pattern that creates a visually appealing display. Make sure to leave enough space between each luminary to prevent any fire hazards.
Light up the neighborhood: As the sun sets, go around the neighborhood and light each luminary. Enjoy the beautiful glow as it spreads throughout the area, creating a magical ambiance.
Maintain safety: Remind everyone to exercise caution and keep an eye on the lit luminaries throughout the evening. Ensure that children and pets are supervised around the candles or LED lights.
Starting a neighborhood tradition with luminaries not only adds charm to your community but also fosters a sense of togetherness during the holiday season. It's a simple yet impactful way to create lasting memories and spread joy among your neighbors.
Polar Express Train Ride:
One of the most enchanting Christmas experiences for both children and adults is a Polar Express train ride. Inspired by the beloved book and movie, this immersive journey captures the magic of the holiday season. Here's what you can expect:
Find a local Polar Express train ride: Search for nearby train operators or theme parks that offer a Polar Express experience. Many places host these special events during the Christmas season. While I can't speak to all of these rides here are a few links to help you find a train ride near you!
Purchase tickets: Once you find a suitable location, book your tickets in advance. These events tend to sell out quickly, so it's best to secure your spot as early as possible.
Dress the part: Encourage everyone to wear their coziest pajamas, just like the characters in the story. This adds an extra layer of fun and enhances the magical atmosphere.
Board the train: Arrive at the designated station and board the train decorated with holiday lights and decorations. The interior will often be adorned with festive decor, creating a whimsical setting.
Enjoy the journey: As the train departs, prepare to be transported into the world of the Polar Express. Sing along to Christmas carols, enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, and listen to the captivating tale of the Polar Express.
Meet Santa Claus: At some point during the journey, Santa Claus himself may make an appearance, interacting with passengers and spreading Christmas cheer.
Arrival at the "North Pole": The climax of the experience is the arrival at the "North Pole." Look out the window to see a dazzling light display, with Santa's workshop and his reindeer waiting to greet you.
Gift from Santa: Santa Claus will typically give each child a bell, just like in the story, as a keepsake to remember their magical journey.
You could always try the Polar Express Elevator (if anyone has been please let me know if it is as awesome as the video below!!) Located in Massachusetts, Natick Mall (click here for tickets!!!) (Someone feel free to invite me !!!)
A Polar Express train ride is an unforgettable experience that brings the beloved story to life. It's a perfect way to create cherished memories and make Christmas dreams come true.
Christmas White Elephant/Chinese Gift Exchange:
The Christmas White Elephant or Chinese Gift Exchange is a fun and exciting game that adds a twist to traditional gift-giving. Here's how you can organize this entertaining activity:
Set the rules: Decide on the budget for gifts and establish any specific guidelines, such as whether participants should bring new items or items they already own. Communicate these rules to all participants in advance.
Invite friends or family: Reach out to your friends or family members and invite them to join the gift exchange. Ensure that everyone understands the concept and is willing to participate.
Wrap the gifts: Each participant should wrap their gift creatively and disguise it, making it challenging to guess the contents.
Determine the order: Decide on the order in which participants will take turns selecting a gift. This can be done randomly, by drawing numbers, or through a fun game or activity
Start the gift exchange: Gather all participants in a circle and place the wrapped gifts in the center. The first participant selects a gift from the pile and opens it.
Unwrapping or stealing: The second participant then has the option to either unwrap a new gift from the pile or steal the gift that the first participant opened. If a gift is stolen, the person whose gift was taken can either choose a new gift or steal from someone else. This continues until all participants have had a turn.
Set stealing limits: To keep the game fair and prevent endless stealing, you can establish a limit on the number of times a gift can be stolen. For example, after a gift has been stolen three times, it becomes "frozen" and can no longer be taken.
Enjoy the surprises: As the game progresses, participants will have the opportunity to see various gifts being unwrapped and may strategically choose to steal a gift they find more appealing. This adds an element of suspense and excitement to the exchange.
Final round and settling disputes: Once all participants have had a turn, the last participant can choose to either unwrap a new gift from the pile or steal from any of the previously opened gifts. This completes the gift exchange.
Share the laughter and joy: After the gift exchange, encourage participants to share the stories behind their gifts or funny moments that occurred during the game. It's a great way to create lasting memories and bond with friends or family.
The Christmas White Elephant or Chinese Gift Exchange is a lighthearted and amusing activity that brings laughter and surprises to any gathering. It adds an element of unpredictability to traditional gift-giving and ensures that everyone leaves with a unique and memorable present.
Christmas Cookie Party:
Hosting a Christmas cookie party is a delightful way to celebrate the holiday season and indulge in an array of delicious cookies. Here's how you can organize a cookie party where each person, child, or family brings their favorite cookies and recipe:
Send out invitations: Create invitations that specify the date, time, and location of the cookie party. Encourage each guest to bring their favorite batch of cookies along with the recipe to share.
Set the guidelines: Let your guests know how many cookies they should bring. As a general guideline, request each person to bring half a dozen cookies for each attendee. This ensures there are plenty of cookies to share and sample.
Provide containers: Prepare containers or bags for guests to take home a variety of cookies. Encourage them to bring their own containers as well, in case they want to bring some cookies back with them.
Arrange a display area: Set up a festive table or designated area where guests can display their cookies. Provide labels or small cards for guests to write the name of their cookie and any special notes.
Enjoy the cookie sampling: Let guests mingle and enjoy sampling the different cookies. They can take a few of each kind or create their own cookie assortment to enjoy during the party or take home.
Recipe sharing: Encourage guests to share their cookie recipes by either bringing printed copies or sending them digitally after the party. This way, everyone can recreate their favorite cookies at home.
Enjoy the company: While savoring the cookies, engage in conversation and enjoy the company of friends and family. It's a great opportunity to catch up, share stories, and celebrate the holiday season together.
A Christmas cookie party creates a warm and inviting atmosphere and allows everyone to showcase their baking skills and share their favorite treats. It's a joyous occasion that brings people together through the love of cookies and delicious recipes.
Christmas Friends and Facials - Spa Day:
Pampering yourself and your friends with a spa day is a perfect way to relax and rejuvenate during the Christmas season. Here's how you can plan a festive spa day at a local spa:
Choose a spa: Research local spas in your area and find one that offers a variety of services such as facials, massages, and manicures. Look for special holiday packages or discounts. We might be bias but we recommend The Oasis for a truly luxurious experience! (Click to learn more about hosting a "Friends and Facials" with us!)
Send out invitations: Invite your friends to join you for a spa day by sending out festive invitations. Include details about the date, time, and location of the spa. Encourage guests to dress comfortably and bring their own robes and slippers, if desired.
Book appointments: Call the spa in advance to book appointments for each guest. Discuss the services they offer and inquire about any additional amenities, such as access to saunas or relaxation lounges.
Arrange transportation: If necessary, arrange transportation to and from the spa to ensure everyone can relax and enjoy the day without worrying about driving.
Spa day essentials: Remind your guests to bring essentials such as a change of clothes, toiletries, and any personal items they may need for the day. The spa may also provide these items, so check with them beforehand.
Relax and enjoy: On the day of the spa visit, arrive early with your friends to check in and unwind before your scheduled services. Take advantage of the spa facilities and indulge in a luxurious day of relaxation and self-care.
After-spa activities: After the spa treatments, continue the festivities by enjoying a meal together or relaxing with some hot tea at a nearby café. Reflect on the day and share your favorite moments.
A Christmas friends and facials spa day is a wonderful way to treat yourself and your friends to some well-deserved pampering. It's an opportunity to unwind, rejuvenate, and create lasting memories of relaxation and self-care.

Capturing the Christmas spirit with a photo shoot is a fantastic way to document the holiday season and create cherished memories. Here's how you can plan a photo shoot day with the help of a local photographer! (If you are in Richmond VA, Try me! The Untamed Lens By Reilly! Click here!)
Find a local photographer: Search for photographers in your area who specialize in family or portrait photography. Look for their portfolios, reviews, and pricing information to find a photographer that suits your style and budget.
Schedule the photo shoot: Contact the photographer and discuss availability and pricing options. Book a date and time that works best for you and your group.
Choose a location: Decide on the setting for your photo shoot. It could be outdoors, such as a park, a Christmas tree farm, or a snowy landscape, or indoors, like a cozy living room decorated for the holidays.
Coordinate outfits: Encourage everyone participating in the photo shoot to coordinate their outfits. Choose colors or themes that complement each other and the holiday season. Consider including festive accessories like Santa hats or scarves.
Plan the day: On the day of the photo shoot, make sure everyone arrives at the chosen location on time. Allow extra time for any necessary touch-ups or last-minute adjustments to outfits or hairstyles.
Communicate with the photographer: Before the shoot begins, have a conversation with the photographer about the vision and style you have in mind. Share any specific poses or shots you would like to capture, as well as any props or decorations you may have brought along.
Enjoy the photo shoot: Relax, have fun, and let the photographer capture beautiful moments of joy and togetherness. Encourage natural interactions and genuine smiles to create authentic and heartwarming photos.
Capture different settings: If you've chosen an outdoor location, take advantage of various areas within that setting. Explore different angles, backdrops, and lighting conditions to add variety to your photos.
Involve the whole family or friends: If you're doing a family or group photo shoot, include everyone in the frame. Capture candid moments, individual portraits, and group shots to tell the full story of your Christmas gathering.
Document the day: After the photo shoot, reminisce about the experience and the memories you've created together. Consider creating a photo album or a digital gallery to share with friends and family. I ABSOLUTELY love mixbook, I use them every single year for all of my gifts (literally almost anyone I gift for the holidays, birthday, major event gets a mixbook album- it is so special for the receiver and MIXBOOK does an amazing job.) Deliver the gifts: Follow the instructions provided by the organization on how and where to deliver the gifts. They may have designated drop-off locations or specific arrangements for gift collection. Make sure to adhere to any deadlines or timelines given.
Share the joy: Participating in a Christmas angel program is not only about shopping for gifts, but also about spreading joy and goodwill. Consider leaving a heartfelt note or card with the gifts to let the child and their family know that they are cared for and valued.
Remember, each organization may have its own unique process and guidelines for shopping for a local Christmas angel. It's essential to connect with the organization directly to ensure you have accurate information and can follow their instructions.

Next on the list: The Decor
It is not Christmas without a little Decor!!
If you are planning to DIY Some of your decor this year, boy do I have a list for you!!!
Certainly! Here's a step-by-step guide on how to DIY a Christmas wreath that is Instagram-worthy:
Gather your materials:
Wreath base (can be a wire frame or a pre-made wreath)
Evergreen branches (such as pine, cedar, or fir)
Floral wire or hot glue gun
Decorative elements (ornaments, ribbon, berries, pinecones, etc.)
Scissors or wire cutters
2. Prepare your wreath base:
If you're using a wire frame, shape it into a circle or desired shape. If you have a pre-made wreath, skip this step.
Fluff and adjust the branches of the pre-made wreath to make it look fuller and more natural.
3. Trim the evergreen branches:
Cut the evergreen branches into smaller pieces, around 6-10 inches in length.
Remove any excess foliage from the bottom part of the branches to make them easier to attach.
4. Attach the evergreen branches:
Take one branch at a time and secure it to the wreath base using floral wire or hot glue. Start at the bottom and work your way around the wreath.
Overlap the branches slightly to create a layered and full look.
Continue adding branches until the entire wreath base is covered.
5. Add decorative elements:
Once the evergreen branches are securely attached, it's time to add the decorative elements.
Use floral wire or hot glue to attach ornaments, berries, pinecones, or any other desired decorations to the wreath.
Get creative with the arrangement and placement, ensuring a balanced and visually pleasing design.
6. Incorporate ribbon or bows:
To add an extra festive touch, incorporate ribbon or bows into your wreath.
You can tie a large bow and attach it at the bottom or top of the wreath, or weave ribbon throughout the greenery for a more whimsical look.
7. Make final adjustments:
Step back and assess your wreath. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure a balanced and visually appealing arrangement.
Trim any excess branches or wire that may be sticking out.
8. Capture the perfect photo:
Find a well-lit area with good natural light to showcase your wreath.
Hang the wreath on a door, wall, or other suitable backdrop.
Experiment with different angles and perspectives to capture the beauty of your wreath.
Don't forget to add a festive caption and share your creation on Instagram!
Remember, the key to an Instagram-worthy Christmas wreath is creativity, attention to detail, and a personal touch. Feel free to add your own unique elements and style to make it truly stand out. Christmas Soap:
A great Christmas Gift for you, colleagues, teachers, neighbors, friends, or yourself!!!
To make Christmas soap, here is a general step-by-step guide:
Gather your ingredients:
Soap base (melt-and-pour or cold process)
Essential oils or fragrance oils of your choice
Optional additives like colorants, herbs, or exfoliants
Molds or soap loaf mold
Measuring cups and spoons
Mixing bowl and spoon
Microwave or double boiler (if using melt-and-pour base)
Lye (if using cold process method)
Choose a soap recipe:
There are various Christmas soap recipes available online that offer different scents, textures, and designs. Consider peppermint, cinnamon, evergreen, or festive swirls.
Follow the recipe instructions:
Each soap recipe will have specific measurements and steps, so it's essential to follow them carefully.
For melt-and-pour soap:
Cut the soap base into small chunks and melt it in the microwave or double boiler.
Once melted, add essential oils or fragrance oils and any optional additives.
Pour the mixture into your chosen molds and let it cool and harden.
For cold process soap:
Research and follow a reliable cold process soap recipe that includes lye, oils, and other ingredients.
Follow proper safety precautions when working with lye by wearing gloves and eye protection.
Combine the lye solution with the oils, add essential oils or fragrance oils, and any optional additives.
Pour the mixture into a soap loaf mold and let it sit for several hours or days until it hardens.
Cut the loaf into individual bars.
Customize and decorate:
Once the soap has hardened, you can get creative with decorations.
Consider adding festive colors, swirls, or embeds using natural colorants, mica powders, or dried herbs.
You can also wrap the soap bars with festive paper, ribbons, or labels to make them more presentable as gifts.
Allow curing time:
If you're using the cold process method, the soap will need several weeks to cure before it's ready for use. This allows it to harden and become milder.
Remember to always follow proper safety precautions and use reliable recipes when making soap. The specific directions and measurements may vary based on the recipe you choose.

Christmas Candles:
Christmas Candles make a perfect gift for anyone- just like the soap!! Try a mason jar for the holder, or a special and beautiful idea would be to take old dishes- maybe Christmas Tree Shaped, or old teacup and use as the candle holder. Simply pour the wax into these vintage dishes and make a truly unforgettable candle!!
To make a Christmas candle that smells like the Thymes Frasier Fir Pine Needle Candle, you can try the following DIY approach:
Ingredients and materials:
Soy wax flakes or beeswax
Fragrance oil or essential oils:
Siberian fir
Cedarwood
Sandalwood
Candle wicks
Candle dye (optional for color)
Candle container or mold
Double boiler or microwave-safe container
Thermometer
Stirring utensil
Instructions:
Prepare your workspace: Clear a clean, well-ventilated area for making the candle. Place newspaper or a protective covering on your work surface.
Melt the wax: If using soy wax flakes, melt them in a double boiler or a microwave-safe container following the instructions on the package. Heat until fully melted, but avoid overheating.
Add fragrance: Once the wax is melted, let it cool slightly, then add the fragrance oils. For a Thymes Frasier Fir Pine Needle scent, blend the Siberian fir, cedarwood, and sandalwood oils together, adjusting the ratios to achieve your desired fragrance strength. Stir gently to distribute the scent evenly throughout the wax.
Add color (optional): If you want to color your candle, add a candle dye of your choice and stir well. Remember to use only dyes specifically designed for candle-making.
Prepare the container or mold: Place the candle wick in the center of the container or mold, ensuring it stands straight. You can secure the wick in place using a wick sticker or by dipping the end in melted wax.
Pour the wax: Slowly pour the scented and colored wax into the container or mold, taking care not to disturb the wick. Leave some space at the top for any potential shrinkage during cooling.
Allow the candle to cool and set: Let the candle sit undisturbed until it solidifies and cools completely. This can take a few hours or overnight, depending on the size of the candle.
Trim and test the wick: After the candle has hardened, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch. Light the candle to test the scent and ensure it burns properly. Enjoy the delightful fragrance of your homemade Frasier Fir-inspired Christmas candle!
Remember, experimenting with different fragrance oil ratios and candle dye amounts can help you achieve the desired scent and appearance. Be sure to follow proper safety guidelines when working with hot wax and open flames.
